1:1 Initiative
It is the goal of the Hermitage School District to implement a successful 1:1, pronounced “one to one,” initiative in accordance with our mission statement. This initiative will empower teachers and students to use technology to collaborate, create, communicate and critically think to learn, and learn how to learn, in the 21st century.
As part of the 1:1 initiative, The Hermitage School District will distribute Chromebooks to each student in grades 8-12. In grades 2-7, classroom teachers will be provided a cart of Chromebooks with enough for each of their students.
Along with the distribution of Chromebooks to our students, the District is also utilizing a Learning Management System (LMS) called Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an online learning, classroom management, and social networking platform that increases learning opportunities through its communication and collaboration tools, and by providing 24/7 access to curricular and supplemental content. Google Classroom will serve as a virtual extension of the District’s brick and mortar buildings.
Each Chromebook assigned will have all of the software needed for active participation in the learning activities of their various courses. The District will also provide Internet content filtering for all 1:1 devices. The content filter will be active at school, at home, or anywhere students access the Internet with their 1:1 device.
Costs associated with the 1:1 initiative are partially offset by eliminating the purchase of classroom computers and with the current computer lab refresh cycles.
